Are you afraid your fiance or your bridal party will only dance to the songs with the word "Chicken" in them? We've got an idea for a Dancing Lessons Party to teach them to cut the rug properly. Are you afraid your fiance or your bridal party will only dance to the songs with the word "Chicken" in them? We've got an idea for a Dancing Lessons Party to teach them to cut the rug properly. Whether you choose to have a DJ or a live band, significant dances like your first dance, parent dances, and the bridal party dance can become nerve-racking if you don't know what you're doing. Teach yourself to dance by having a dancing lessons party for your wedding party.
Get proper instruction
Find a dance class to bring your men and 'maids to, or purchase an instructional video for you all to watch. Or buy them each their own video so they may practice - a lot - at home. Make sure that when purchasing your video or looking for an instructor that they are able to teach you the steps to several different kinds of dances. In other words, the lambada may look like a lot of fun, but how will you look doing it during a Nat King Cole song?
Find a proper space
If you're going to have ten to twelve non-dancers learning to dance in the same room, make sure you've got lots of space. If your apartment or home doesn't afford the Dancing Lessons Party, then ask your mom if you can use her basement, or an apartment building's rec room. If you're going to a dancing class, ask the instructor if there's room for your entire party to take a lesson and have plenty of room as well as personal instruction. If not, you may want to fork out the extra cash for a private lesson - where all of you have the room to step on each other's feet in complete freedom.
Learn a variety of steps
To cover all your bases, make sure you and your wedding party is versed in several different kinds of dancing. For the basics, know the fox trot (a 4-beat step) and a waltz (a 3-beat step) to make it through almost any fast or slow song. If you want to learn more, add a basic swing step, a latin step (the mambo or the cha-cha). If your friends are really into it, learn a couple of show-off swing moves or the tango to impress your guests with cut-a-rug know-how. If you know these basic steps, you will be able to survive most anything the band or DJ throws at you.
Practise to the songs you'll be dancing to
Don't forget to try dancing to your song before the day of the wedding! And you may want to have your bridal party do the same. This way you will know ahead of time which kind of dance step you will use, and you will be much more comfortable on the wedding day when the band strikes up your Big Number.
